Tsukiji Sandai is an oyster bar in Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho, run by a Toyosu Market wholesaler, offering fresh raw oysters and tasting comparison sets. Despite the name referencing the historic Tsukiji Market, the fish is sourced through the family's wholesale connections at Toyosu, giving the establishment an expert's eye for quality that is rare to find in a casual drinking alley setting. The menu centres on fresh raw oysters, selected daily by the owner at the pre-dawn market auction, with a popular tasting comparison set allowing diners to sample oysters from different regions of Japan side by side. The 980-yen raw oyster tasting set is a standout bargain, and the oyster course at 4,000 yen includes arranged dishes paired with sake. Cooked oyster dishes - grilled, steamed and fried - are also available for those who prefer their shellfish warm.
Tsukiji Sandai is located in Omoide Yokocho at Nishi-Shinjuku 1-2-7, a narrow alleyway of tiny bars and eateries running alongside the JR tracks near Shinjuku Station's west exit. The bar is just a three-minute walk from JR Shinjuku Station, making it one of the most easily accessible dining spots in the area, and its position in the atmospheric alley makes it a memorable stop for an evening of oysters and sake.

A delicious variety of freshly shucked oysters for reasonable prices. We tried one of each oyster listed and went back for seconds of our favorites. The grilled oyster with miso butter was incredible too! Hoping to return for more!

This was one of the most incredible experiences of my life and I am an oyster foodie. Wine perfectly matched every raw oyster. So many varieties! We loved the crackers and dip too. This, alone was a reason to come to Tokyo. We haven’t visited other oyster bars to compare but the whole experience was worth a Michelin star.

4.5/5. The best oysters you will ever eat. Oysters come from all over the world, but obviously they specialize in Japanese variety that are amazing. You will have to order one drink and one order of food. I think there maybe a per/person, but is so cheap that the food and experience is worth every Yen.
